The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has commended the Cebu Provincial Government, led by Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro, for the successful conduct of a medical and surgical mission at the Cebu Provincial Hospital–Danao City as part of the province’s 457th Founding Anniversary celebration.
Through Resolution No. 67, authored by PB Member Michael Joseph T. Villamor, the Provincial Board recognized the provincial government’s efforts to bring free medical and surgical services closer to Cebuanos, particularly patients who may otherwise have difficulty accessing or affording specialized healthcare.
The two-day mission provided an estimated ₱9.5 million worth of free medical services, benefiting residents who received a wide range of surgical, medical, dental, diagnostic, and screening services.
Free surgeries and medical services
Among the services provided during the mission were 23 major surgeries and 52 minor surgical procedures.
Medical teams also conducted 225 medical consultations, while dental teams provided services to 63 patients.
The mission included 10 arteriovenous (AV) fistula procedures, which are performed to establish vascular access for patients who require hemodialysis.
A total of 85 diagnostic services and 93 HIV screenings were also conducted during the two-day activity.
The wide range of services allowed patients to access specialized care without having to shoulder the costs associated with consultations, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
More than 260 volunteers join mission
The medical mission brought together more than 260 volunteer doctors, healthcare professionals, and support personnel from various institutions and organizations.
Participating partners included Chong Hua Medical Center, Cebu Provincial Hospital–Danao City, Cebu Medical Society, Kaambag Clinic, the Cebu Provincial Health Office, and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines–Cebu Province Chapter.
Their combined expertise, resources, and manpower helped ensure the delivery of medical services throughout the two-day outreach.
The Provincial Board expressed its appreciation to the partner institutions, medical professionals, volunteers, and support personnel who contributed to the undertaking.
The PB said the successful mission demonstrated the value of partnerships in expanding access to healthcare, particularly for communities that may face financial or geographic barriers to specialized medical services.
Strengthening public healthcare
The Danao medical mission forms part of the Cebu Provincial Government’s continuing efforts to improve access to healthcare and bring essential services closer to communities across the province.
For the provincial government, partnerships with private hospitals, professional organizations, government agencies, and volunteers remain important in complementing the services provided by its public hospitals.
The initiative also highlights the province’s continuing focus on strengthening its healthcare system and ensuring that more Cebuanos can receive timely and quality medical care.
