The Cebu Provincial Government has begun preparations for a new round of infrastructure improvements at Daanbantayan District Hospital, with officials holding a pre-construction conference to coordinate project implementation ahead of construction.
The meeting brought together hospital officials led by Chief of Hospital Dr. Hanzel Ibona, representatives from the Provincial Engineering Office headed by Planning Engineer Eva Estoconing, and contractor Grand Taishan.

Officials discussed the scope of work, construction schedule, and measures to minimize disruptions to hospital operations while the projects are being implemented.
Among the major projects are the construction of a new Outpatient Department and Pharmacy Building, Dietary Building, Linen and Laundry Building, Ambulance Park and Maintenance Building, Hazardous Waste Storage Building, and Morgue Building.
Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, who attended the meeting, said the infrastructure improvements will also help prepare the hospital for a potential upgrade to a Level 1 facility.
“These improvements also help lay the groundwork for the future upgrading of Daanbantayan District Hospital to a Level 1 hospital, in due time, as we progressively complete the infrastructure, manpower, equipment, and service requirements needed for the upgrade,” Catalan said.
Catalan has been tasked by Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro to oversee health reforms under her administration.
More hospital improvements planned
Additional projects are also lined up to improve the hospitalβs facilities and operations.
These include the construction of a covered walkway connecting the main hospital building to the outpatient department, repairs to the emergency room, laboratory and radiology sections, repainting of hospital buildings, and rehabilitation of the hospitalβs perimeter fence.
Provincial officials said the improvements are designed to enhance patient care while providing healthcare workers with a safer, more efficient, and more functional working environment.
The planned infrastructure projects form part of the provincial governmentβs efforts to strengthen public healthcare facilities and improve access to quality medical services in northern Cebu.
The upgrades are also expected to help position Daanbantayan District Hospital for its planned Level 1 hospital upgrade once it fulfills the necessary requirements for infrastructure, equipment, manpower, and medical services.
Through the continued improvement of its facilities and healthcare capabilities, the provincial government aims to build a stronger public health system that can better serve residents of Daanbantayan and nearby communities.
