Gov. Pamela Baricuatro joined Cebuanos in Carcar City as the Cebu Provincial Government brought the final leg of its major Medical, Surgical, Dental and Eye Care Caravan of Services held in connection with the Province’s 457th Founding Anniversary.
For Gov. Pam, the mission is ultimately about reaching people directly—especially families who may not always have easy access to the healthcare they need.
“These medical missions have always been very important to me because they allow us to reach our people directly—especially those who may not always have easy access to the medical care they need,” the Governor said.
At the Carcar City Sports Complex, residents from Carcar and neighboring communities received free medical consultations, including access to specialists for pediatric, pulmonary, kidney, heart, endocrine and skin concerns. The caravan also provided dental extractions, eye check-ups and reading glasses, and HIV screening.
Meanwhile, at Cebu Provincial Hospital–Carcar City, qualified and pre-screened patients are receiving free surgical services on September 26 and 27 for conditions including hernia, gallstones, goiter and hemorrhoids.
Gov. Pam thanked Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas and the City Government of Carcar for supporting the mission, as well as the many healthcare professionals, institutions and organizations that came together to serve.
She also gave special recognition to Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Baricuatro Catalan-Viscayno, who has been leading the series of medical missions with the Provincial health team and partners.
“I know how much work goes into every mission—from bringing our medical partners together to making sure we are able to serve as many Cebuanos as possible. Thank you, Nikki, and to your entire team for your hard work and commitment,” Gov. Pam said.
The mission was made possible with the support of the University of Cebu Medical Center, Cebu Medical Society, Cebu Optometric Society, Cebu Dental Society, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, VSMMC Kaambag Clinic, Malasakit at Bayanihan Party-list represented by Congresswoman Girlie Veloso and Dr. Shane Veloso, Miss Universe Cebu Charity 2024 Dr. Nica Zosa Nabua, Carcar City LGU, CPH–Carcar led by Chief of Hospital Dr. Mary Ann Josephine Arsenal, and the Cebu Provincial Health Office.
Gov. Pam likewise thanked the doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurses, healthcare workers, Capitol personnel, support teams and volunteers who shared their time, skills and resources throughout the medical mission series.
While Carcar marks the final leg of the major anniversary medical missions, Gov. Pam emphasized that it does not mark the end of the Province’s work to improve healthcare access.
“We still have much to do, and we will continue bringing our services closer to Cebuanos wherever they are in the province,” she said.
For families, healthcare closer to home can mean less travel, fewer expenses and one less worry when seeking help. And long after the anniversary activities conclude, the work of making healthcare more accessible to every Cebuano continues. 💜
