Twenty-seven patients received needed surgical care closer to home as an all-Province health team completed 27 surgical cases during the two-day medical and surgical caravan at Cebu Provincial HospitalβBalamban on September 19 and 20.
The team completed 13 procedures on the first day and 14 on the second, including 16 laparoscopic gallbladder removals, two thyroidectomies, one hernioplasty, two hemorrhoidectomies, five total abdominal hysterectomies with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (TAHBSO), and one total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy (TAHBO).
By bringing the surgical teams and services closer to the community, patients were spared the need to travel farther to receive these procedures.
The caravan brought together doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers from all 16 Capitol-run hospitals, with several physicians also volunteering their expertiseβdemonstrating the integrated hospital system being strengthened under Gov. Pamela Baricuatroβs healthcare reforms.
βThis is what a united Cebu Province hospital system looks like: our healthcare workers coming together across facilities, all for the patients,β Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Baricuatro Catalan-Viscayno said.
The surgical team included Dr. Lynn Suan, Dr. Kevin Basco, Dr. Dianne Demaporo, Dr. Nova Carl Torralba, Dr. Bonito Zanoria, Dr. Alvin Buranday and Dr. Neva Padilla.
The anesthesiology team was composed of Dr. Hazel Borres, Dr. Kazeline Lasdoce, Dr. Kierstienne Karen Moralde and Dr. Barbara Dominique Balistoy.
The gynecology team included Dr. Marie Antoinette Mendoza, Dr. Mary Girlie Veloso Borromeo, Dr. Milagrosa Tolentino, Dr. Nina Angela Darcera and Dr. Elsie Yap Icamina.
Representing CPH-Balamban were Dr. Rusienne Mae Verano-Dumdum, Dr. Angelique Ramirez and Dr. Nikka Canubas.
Special recognition also goes to Dr. Olivia Dandan and the entire CPH-Balamban team, who hosted the caravan and helped ensure that the procedures were delivered safely and smoothly.
βTo every doctor, nurse, healthcare worker, coordinator, and support staff who made this possible, daghang salamat,β Dr. Catalan-Viscayno said.
The Balamban caravan reflects Cebu Provinceβs continuing direction for healthcare: 16 hospitals sharing their people, skills and resources as one provincial health team so more Cebuanos can receive the care they need closer to their communities.
