The inaugural Governor’s Zero Hunger Run raised ₱2.9 million for food security and nutrition programs after attracting 3,500 participants in a historic charity race dedicated to the fight against hunger.
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro described the event as the country’s first footrace focused on supporting hunger elimination efforts, highlighting the importance of collective action among government, communities, and the private sector.

“This was our first Governor’s Zero Hunger Run, and its success belongs to all of you. Daghang salamat Cebu,” Baricuatro said.
“As I have always believed, if we want to eliminate hunger, we must involve everyone. This event showed what we can accomplish when government, communities, and the private sector work together with compassion and a shared purpose,” she added.
Organized by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission as part of Cebu Province’s 457th Founding Anniversary celebration, the fundraising activity gathered runners from different parts of the province in support of the Capitol’s Zero Hunger campaign.
Gov. Baricuatro joined the 1K fun run together with guests, Capitol officials, and employees, thanking participants for turning the event into a movement aimed at addressing hunger and improving the lives of Cebuanos.
“Thank you to every runner who showed up and ran with us,” the governor said.
She said the proceeds from the successful race will help support programs designed to improve food security and nutrition among communities across Cebu.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission, Run Director May Salimbangon, members of the Provincial Board, Capitol departments and employees, participating local government units, volunteers, and partner agencies that contributed to the smooth staging of the event.
She specifically thanked the Cebu City Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, sponsors, and private partners for their support in making the activity successful.
The thousands of runners who participated also played a key role in transforming the Governor’s Zero Hunger Run into a meaningful fundraising initiative that promotes unity, compassion, and collective responsibility in addressing hunger.
The success of the first Governor’s Zero Hunger Run marks a significant step in Cebu’s continuing efforts to strengthen food security programs and build healthier communities.
